Now carrying internationally known local sound artist Richard Chartier’s LINE imprint! Amazing soundscapes and audio visual works.
We are the only DC area store besides the Hirshhorn carrying these incredible CD’s and DVD’s.
From February 3-20 The Strathmore in Bethesda is hosting the “Discover Ellington” celebration honoring the life and music of DC native son Duke Ellington who lived around the corner from us (1212 T Street NW) when he was growing up. If we’d been here then I’m sure he would have been a frequent customer at Som!
We have two pairs of tickets to give away – one pair for the “Duke Goes Latin” show on Saturday, February 18 at 8PM and another pair of tickets to “Ellington – A Sacred Concert” on Sunday, February 19 at 4PM.
The tickets go to the first customers who come into the shop, buy a jazz (loosely defined) record and ask about the give-away. You can only win one. The contest starts now (1/20)

Nifty new app. for the iPhone and Android created by the folks at the Vinyl District helps you find the nearest record store! NPR write up here
The DC Record Fair returns on Sunday, February 12. Now in its 4th year this is one of the premier record shows on the East Coast. Put together by Som Records, The Vinyl District DC and DC Soul Recordings this show gathers between 35-40 record dealers (and just plain record sellers) from DC, Richmond, Baltimore, Charlottesville, Philly, Connecticut, Pittsburgh and points between. Pick a genre and someone there will have a selection to pick through. Dollar bin miracles to appropriately priced rarities you never know what you’ll come across.
The host of this edition of the fair is the DC Riot Act Comedy Theater at 801 E St. NW in Penn Quarter. Admission is $5 early-bird (11AM-12 noon) and then $2 after (til 4:30PM). There will be DJs the whole time (confirmed at press time are DJ Pari and Stereofaith) as well as food and drink (Bloody Marys!). What a great way to spend a February afternoon!
Mentions from the Washington Post and The Hufffington Post!
